What TO Drink at the Watering Hole

well pumpLast week I talked about the crocodiles that are lurking at the watering hole. Although I don’t recommend replacing water with ‘Sweet Drinking’, everyone likes to treat themselves every once in a while.   This week I’m suggesting beverages, most at the same pull up, or drive-thru  that will be less in sugar and calories.

So there’s the list!  Of course the number one liquid that is best for your body is WATER!  How much should you be drinking?  To keep your organs and digestion working properly, take your body weight, divide it in half and that is how many ounces of water YOUR body needs to operate on all cylinders.

  • Do NOT use thirst as an indicator to get some water to drink.  If you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated.
  • Having a hard time drinking that much water?  Make it the first thing you do when rising from your bed.  Make it the last thing you do when retiring to bed.
  •  Add a squeeze of lemon or lime to your water.
  • Keep your water refrigerated-cold water absorbs into the blood stream faster.
  • For every caffeinated beverage you consume, you need the same amount of water to offset the caffeine and prevent dehydration.
  • Find your favorite container to drink your water from. Preferably non-plastic.   I like a small spout, I’m weird.  I don’t like to drink water from a glass.

Stay hydrated even in the coming colder months, that is when most weight gain occurs.  Our body thinks it’s hungry so we eat, when in reality we are drinking less because it’s not as hot and our body is thirsty.

Last of all-DON’T DRINK YOUR CALORIES!  They are precious…..and relatively limited 🙂
